Another diet culture message is losing the weight for the event, whether it be a wedding, a holiday a graduation etc…. The implication being you can’t enjoy this event at the weight you are and the only way to enjoy it is to be a thinner version of yourself.
No mention of enjoying the event irrespective of your weight, no mention of the stress on your mind or body of buying into that idea. Certainly no mention of what to do if the diet fails (note it’s the diet that’s the problem not you)
Are we really accepting that only thinner bodies get to enjoy events? All bodies no matter their size and shape deserve to enjoy celebratory events in their lives. So whatever size you are, go as you are, there’s nothing better than celebrating without worrying about your weight!
